Filippo's Italian Specialties

Although I have lived in Silver Spring since 2005 I am embarrassed to admit that I had no idea how many golden nuggets were tucked away in an area adjacent to the Wheaton Mall known as Wheaton Triangle. I had ventured over there one morning after my friend Brian from Corcoran Caterer's highly recommended visiting a mom and pop baker's supply shop named Little Bits. Unfortunately Little Bits was closed for the day but thankfully a few doors down I noticed a sign for Filippo's Italian Specialties (formerly known as Marchone's). Intrigued by the idea there was an old school Italian market in Wheaton I popped in to see what they had to offer. I was immediately welcomed with a warm smile and greeting from the owner, Filippo. While waiting in line for my sandwich it was apparent that this store had a loyal following. One gentleman that I spoke to had been coming here for over 30 years.
